LIFE'S A STORY!
DON'T BE SILENT
"Good morning Juniper." Ace murmured softly to the tiny white kitten tangled up on her lap. It was Sunday morning. Most of the students around Hogwarts were bustling about the castle. They were eating breakfast or catching up on homework. Instead, Ace sat curled up on one of the less than welcoming couches of the Slytherin common room. Alice wondered whose brilliant idea the Slytherin furnishings was. She now hated that person quite passionately. This was the last comfortable place to curl up with Juniper and read. Ace though, longingly, of The Leaky Cauldron. She closed her eyes and daydreamed of a smoldering hot cup of coffee graced with at least 6 sugar cubes, the quiet chattering of strangers speaking in all different tongues, droopy eyes begging morning to end faster, disregarded copies of the Prophet strewn across tables where her mother wiped the surface with a worn looking rag, and that flustered look on the cleaning maid's face as she bustled down the halls with a broom in hand. Ace opened her eyes to be reminded that this was far from home. This was cold and definitely resemblant of the dungeons that were just beyond the entrance. Ace hated being a Slytherin just for this.
She glanced down at the pages of the book she'd been reading. Pride and Prejudice. She'd read it at least ten times, but it never bored her. She had stopped paying attention about ten minutes earlier when her mind had begun to stray. She'd been petting Juniper absently. Why was it that Ace chose solitude on this quiet morning? She had plenty of friends. Alice Longbottom loved to make friends. She adored all social interactions. Some people considered her a bad person because of her take on social affairs. She told things like they were. Some people just couldn't handle the truth. Was Alice to be blamed for their own denial? No, she wasn't.
Her mind wasn't caught up in the social lives of those around her. Or even her own social life for that matter. She was caught up in the concept of time. Time and the future. She was in her final year of school and she'd been told at least twenty times to figure out what she wanted to do with her life. At first, there had been mutterings of joining the ranks of the ministry but Ace hated politics. Despite her high adoration for decent drama, this just wasn't her forte. She had another profession in mind. She didn't know what her parents would say. Ace had always been a fairly good student. She hated attending classes which had left quite the dent in her grade books, but she was exceptionally intelligent. Place her in front of a book or set of potions ingredients and she could leave you in awe. She'd always wanted to travel, be a reporter. She knew that wouldn't last her whole life though. She wanted to be a healer. She wanted to create an institution for the mentally insane. Ace had met muggles who had gone mad. She always wanted to know what happened to the Wizards who went insane. They generally spent their lives within St. Mungo's. Ace wanted to do big things with this. She wanted to change the world. That was a bit of a tall order. Alice knew no one would go for it for a second. So, she wanted to start small. Just work toward healing. That wouldn't be as hard to explain to her father at least. Her father loved herbology and would probably think healing would be the perfect profession for his daughter.
Ace ran a hand through her messy blond locks. It was a habit of hers. Juniper was used to this and didn't mind Alice pulling away from petting her. "What the hell June? What should I do? I have to deal with life for a while." Ace murmured. Yes, she could feel the insanity of this moment alone. She was talking to a cat. She wasn't scolding her or telling her what a good pet she was. She was literally talking to her cat about life. She should have wandered down to the Great Hall an hour ago for some breakfast. No, she was here talking to her cat. Where were all the normal people when Alice Longbottom wished to speak with them?
