* * * It was a crisp saturday morning and Penny Matthews was up bright and early and pulling afew moves on the quidditch pitch. She had managed to bust her wrist the previous week at the first team practise of the year when one of her beaters charged into her and accidentally nocked her off her broom which lead to a botched attempt at saving her resulting in a broken wrist. It was still somewhat sore, but Penny being the quidditch freak that she was, couldn't stay away from the pitch or take it easy on the broom any longer... So she had left the Ravenclaw tower early that morning, before most of her teammates were out of bed and had headed down to the pitch to get back into the swing of things and she thought that maybe it would help to loosen up her wrist abit and maybe even aid it in its recovery... So there she was, shooting over the pitch on her nimbus, which she preferred over the firebolt, purely because the firebolt was all power and no agility. She could out manouvre a firebolt any day, though she accepted that yes, it probably would suit a seeker better, which was a common argument she found herself in with fellow quidditch fans and players alike... She quite enjoyed the debates and kind of wished that James was more interested in the game. Sure he would come and watch her play if he could, but he wasn't as involved and so his oppinions were usually blase' at best. Which was a shame because James was quite oppinionated on other topics of conversation... After a couple of laps of the pitch, weaving lazily between the house stalls, Penny dived down to the ground and delicately hopped from her broom and knelt down to grab the practise quaffle that was lying idly on the ground. Bouncing it acopuple of times in her hand, she hopped back onto her broom and kicked off from the floor, souring up and heading over to the hoops, where she carefully took aim and threw the quaffle hard, scoring through the center hoop, where she instantly shot off, following the ball through the hoop with the aim of catch it before it hit the ground. Scooping up the quaffle in mid air, Penny felt a twinge of pain in her wrist. and she shook her hand a few times, trying to loosen it up as she gently lowered herself down to the ground again, dropping the quaffle on the ground and swinging her leg over so that her feet were on the floor and she was just perched against the still floating broom while she examined her wrist... * * * Words: 473 Tag: Luc! --- His large tuxedo cat Apollo and most of his dorm mates were still snoozing when he'd woken suddenly out of an odd dream, and tried as he might he could not fall back asleep. Flashes of Quidditch plays he was in the middle of doing, and homework that needed done interspersed between pictures of a 7th year Slytherin he needed to not think about. His mind had a tendency to jump about too much for his liking and the only thing that would quiet it down was excercise. Thankfully he had Quidditch practice today, that would get him focused, no matter how temporarily. Giving up on getting any more sleep he hauled himself out of his warm bed to get dressed. The least he could do was do a few laps on his broom to try and clear his head. The sun was barely peeking into his dorm room window when Luc pulled on his hooded sweat shirt to block the crisp October air. Firebolt in one hand, his practice pads in the other he left the comfort of the Ravenclaw tower and headed to the pitch. He arrived on the pitch and found he wasn't the first one up after all. Their team captain Penny Matthews was already flying. He watched with a smile, he'd always liked seeing Penny this way. Very much in her own element, it was probably what had attracted him in the first place. Not that that was going on anymore between them, of course. They had broken up on mutual terms last year and now she was with James, and Luc... well Luc was trying not to be too occupied by someone he barely knew. He grinned as she threw the quaffle expertly through the center hoop before diving to catch it in mid air. Except just as she scooped it in mid air, something changed. She seemed to stall as she shook her wrist and it dawned on Luc that it was the same wrist that she'd broken last week. An accident involving his fellow beater ramming into her, but the botched attempt at trying to keep her off the ground had managed to do more damage then expected. She lowered herself down and kept perched on her floating broom as she examined her wrist. Luc sighed, Penny, like him was an avid athlete. Despte being told to take it easy, here she was aggravating her barely healing injury, but he couldn't fault her for it. If it had been him, he'd be doing the same thing. Being cooped up without an outlet would probably drive him insane. Considering his already jumbled brain, the thought alone made him grimace. He shook his head, an attempt to clear it as he joined her on the field. "Keep it up and you won't be able to play in the game," he grinned at her as he approached. "Morning, Penny. You're up early." --- Words: 510 Tags: Penny Comments: Fun times.

* * * Penny was frowning in thought as she ran her fingers over her damaged wrist when she heard a farmiliar voice approaching beside her, "Keep it up and you won't be able to play in the game," a smilesliding into place at the sound, Penny looked up to see Luc Norwood, fellow Ravenclaw, quidditch teammate and ex boyfriend walking towards her. "Yeah right, like this would keep me away." She laughed a little, though she knew he was actually quite right. If worst came to worst, she wouldn't be able to play and she would have to watch her teams first competitive game of the year from the stalls... "Morning, Penny. You're up early." Penny sighed some, letting go of her wrist and waving her good arm in a loose dismissive manner, "Yeah, wanted to try to get back on the broom sooner rather than later, yaknow? wanted to be ready for practise later.." She glanced fleetingly down at her wrist again, actively wondering how long it would be before she was completely healed and ready to go again, before her eyes moved back up to Luc who was now right beside her. Pushing up from her perched stance against the broom, she stepped over to Luc and hugged him as her greeting, before she moved back and leant against her still floating broom once more. Yes he was her ex, but they parted on good terms, it seemed like they had just turned into good friends, rather than anything more and when summer had arrived, they found that they didn't miss each other like they felt they should. Luc was still one of her closer friends, and being in the same house they shared many personality traits as well, of course, their love for quidditch... "So why are you out here so early?" she asked interestedly, looking him over for any clues as to why he might be out of the tower on an admittedly crisply cold weekend morning. Her eyes fell on his firebolt and lingered there for a moment. she smiled inwardly at her previous thoughts on the furious debates over which was the superior broom, the nimbus or the firebolt... Luc was her beater on the house team, he was well built for the role, strong arms and upper body and when he was on form he could send a bludger clear of the pitch with one good connection... She breifly thought about her team, she was really happy with the lineup this year, maybe this time they could get the cup, and during her year as captain too... That would be amazing! Shaking these distracting thoughts from her mind, she refocussed her attention on Luc and she smiled in a friendly sort of way as she waited for him to speak up... * * * Words: 521 Tag: Luc! * * * "My brain is doing the jumbled thing," Penny nodded, 'the jumbled thing' she knew all about that. Luc would go through phases of just being kind of unsettled and unfocussed. It was just a part of him, it was even kind of an endearing trait. "I couldn't get back to sleep, thought I'd get a work out in before breakfast," She nodded in an understanding sort of way and then they both seemed to go quiet for a moment, though it wasn't really an awkward silence, more like they were both just off roaming in their thoughts, before Luc finally added, "You don't mind the intrusion, do you? I mostly wanted to do some laps," Penny laughed some as she leaned backwards a little whilst sitting on her broom and dangled her legs, "Intrusion? I wouldn't really call it that, and of course I don't mind!" She giggled lightly once more when that competitive twinkle found it's way into her eyes, it was the same look that she got when she'd just figured out a puzzle or she'd discovered something new, "Hey you wanna race?" She asked animatedly, already she had a route planned out in her mind's eye. it would have to have obsticles and directional change, because if it was a stright up drag race, then the firebolt would caine her ass every time. "We could do a lap around the castle, then around the base of the bleachers and first back here is the winner?" She asked with a semi-embarrassed giggle as the speed of forethought into her suggestion... * * * Words: 336 Tag: Luc! --- "Intrusion? I wouldn't really call it that, and of course I don't mind!" A tightness he didn't know he felt loosened as she laughed. There was no reason to feel tense around Penny, at least not for long. She just wasn't that type of person, another thing he liked about her. There were no complications with being around Penny, just an easiness that came with knowing each other for years. Being around Daniella couldn't be described as hard, but it certainly wasn't in any way easy... at least not from his point of view. "Hey you wanna race?" Her demeanor had changed to one he knew well. A competitive gleam crept into her eyes and he could almost see her working out the details before she continued. "We could do a lap around the castle, then around the base of the bleachers and first back here is the winner?" Of course she'd decided this with the purpose of leveling the odds. They couldn't do a simple drag race, his firebolt could easily out power her nimbus, however she could outmaneuver him given the difficult combination she suggested. A lap around the bleachers was one thing, but the castle was an entirely different matter. It'd be tricky, but it would definitely clear his head, even if he didn't win. Not that he had any intention of losing, of course. He chuckled at her embarrassed giggle and nodded, "You're on," he picked up his broom from beside his dropped practice pads and positioned himself for a kick off. "Loser owes the winner a butterbeer next Hogsmead weekend," he grinned at her. "On your count, Captian," he teased waiting for her to get in position. --- Words: 320 Tag: Penny Comments: Mine is short too, it'll get longer soon though. hehe.

* * * "You're on," Penny grinned and clapped her hands excitedly as Luc continued, "Loser owes the winner a butterbeer next Hogsmead weekend, On your count, Captian," She giggled as she watched him mount his broom and ready himself for the off. "Alright, that sounds like a plan!" She grinned, swinging her leg over her broom and circling around him once before settling alongside him, so that they were both equal distance from the castle. If there was one thing Penny couldn't stand, it was her competitors (especially boys) giving her an advantage. She wanted to win or lose through her own merits, not because someone else had decided to give her an easy ride. This notion was particularly strong in Quidditch. Perhaps it was because for a long time in history, it was something of a male dominated sport. Penny wanted to prove that she belonged there... Turning her head to look at Luc she grinned with that competitive glint in her eyes again. "Okay, on three, one... twwooo...-" She returned her gaze ahead, she seemed to have tunnel vision, only her route was clear, everything else was just static and meaningless... "THREE!"And they both kicked off simultaniously, with the initial surging forward, Penny could feel her wrist twinging, but she did her best to ignore it as they both streaked through the air, gaining height and speed as they headed towards the castle. She fully expected Luc to overtake her during this initial part of the race, though she was barely aware of where he was in relation to herself anyways, all of her focus and attention was placed soley on her route... This was what she played Quidditch for, this was why she loved flying so much. Just the feeling of the wind rushing through her hair, the prickling on her cheeks as the cold air whipped them. The complete feeling of space and knowing that there was no way anything could hold her back. Just the general feeling of pure exhilaration she got whenever she kicked off from the ground... Speeding up towards the castle, Penny suddenly whipped her broom around to the left where she began weaving around the numerous turrets and towers and she could see the younger kids cramming up the windows to get a glimpse of the race. Just like in her first year, she would dash over to the nearest window for a fleeting glimpse of that moment as soon as anyone in the room happened to yell, 'Race!' She remembered her overwhelming need and want to be that kid on the broom, the one in the race. Well! Now she was that kid, and she was absolutely loving it! Keeping as close to the main body of the castle as she could/dared whilst keeping up her speed, she quickley jerked around to the right and then left to straighten up, the dull aching of her wrist suddenly jarring, causing her to faulter just for a moment before she surged forward again heading back towards the pitch, heading for the bleachers.... * * * Words: 580 Tag: Luc! --- "Alright, that sounds like a plan!" She mounted her broom and circled around till she was exactly beside him. Penny was competitive to the point of wanting no advantage what so ever from her opponent. The only time he would even consider letting her win at something was when they had been dating, and even then it was few and far inbetween. They shared a glance, the gleam in her eye on full force and he grinned back, ready for the challenge. "Okay, on three, one... twwooo...-" He turned his focus back to the course and gripped the shaft of his broom. The firebolt was practically shaking with anticipation, waiting to be set free. "THREE!"And they were off, without so much as a fraction of a second between their take offs. The crisp air whipped about him, throught his hair and slapped him against the face. Pictures of homework melted away, as did plays that needed drawing. Even's Daniella's face disappeared. Everything crowding his mind for dominant control fell away as he concentrated on the task at hand. This was why he excercised, it could do what no suggested medication was capable of: free him. And that's how he felt, completely and utterly in control and not trapped within his confusing brain. The first leg of the race was his for the taking, it was a straight shot to the castle and he easily shot past her at full speed. However, he would lose precious time by having to go wide on turns, since he didn't have the sensitive control of the nimbus Penny flew. She expertly weaved in and out of the towers and turrets and hugged the side of the castle where he had to take longer. She peaked ahead of him and he was sure she was going to win after all when her smoothness faltered ever so slightly and he inched forward until they were neck and neck again. Another straight shot as they headed toward the bleachers. Penny surged ahead, recovering the lead for a few seconds until Luc caught up. This last leg of the race was all that seperated the winner and neither of them had an advantage over the other. What Luc had in pure speed and power, would level with having to keep wide again. His relation to Penny was lost as he put everything he had into curving around the bleachers. Adrenaline pumped through him as he careened around the posts, going full circle. He needed to get back on the field, and fast. There were his practice pads with the lone quaffle where they'd started and he dove for the spot... --- Words: 471 Tag: Penny! Comments: Flip a coin? * * * Trying her hardest to ignore the now stabbing pains in her wrist, Penny pushed forward, suddenly noticing for the first time, that Luc was now beside her, they were neck and neck as they began to round the bleachers. Penny pulled hard to the left as she attempted to out manouvre Lucas around the bleachers, however, as she pulled on the broom, she noticed that though she may have managed to block out most of the pain from her wrist, the effects of the damage she had done to it were beginning to manifest as she noticed her wrist beginning to shake, causing the previously smooth flight begin to tremble also... "Shit..." She murmured as she tried to steady her broom, whilst still pulling the tight corner. Luc had to circle wide, something she knew would play to her advantage, but she still couldn't afford to faulter in her own turn. Still speeding along, Penny exited the turn and leant forward and down, trying to squeeze every last ounce of speed out of the broom as they made their final sprint for the finish line. She could see Luc's pads and the quaffle she'd been messing around with earlier, the markers for the start/finishline... "Shit!" Pain shot right the way up her arm as she learned forward, in turn putting pressure on the injured wrist, causing her to snatch her damaged arm away from the broom and in tern causing her to veer off to the right, allowing Luc to streak past her and claim victory... Well Penny couldn't say that she wasn't slightly disappointed as she steared one handed back around to where Luc was now waiting. Landing gently beside him, she slid off of the broom, while it remained floating just below waist height, as it always did. "Well done, I guess I owe you a drink huh!?" She giggled, giving him a half hug with her good arm, whilst she held the hurt one out at a right angle, well away from contact with.. well anything...As she pulled away from the hug she could have kicked herself for the pain that was only now starting to subside. What the freaking hell had she done to her bloody wrist!? Closing her eyes breifly, she frowned and then opened them again to look down at the offending limb. "I don't understand, It was getting better.." she said like she hadn't done anything remotely strenuous with it or put it under any strain what so ever... That was a problem with the Ravenclaw, completely rational about everyone other than her own needs and safety. She thought that as long as she was in control of the situation, she was invulnerable. In reality she was constained by her own physical limits, limits that she didn't quite recognise just yet... * * * Words: 532 Tag: Luc ooor maybe James? ?? Comments: Uhohs, silly Penny

--- Penny came up beside him, and once again, they were neck and neck. Luc leaned forward into his broom, forcing out the last bit of power he could muster into the dive. He had to pull up before Penny would and this would surely cost him the race if he didn't get ahead now. Except when he pulled up, Penny didn't go shooting past him as expected. In fact she wasn't beside him at all anymore. He touched down a full twenty seconds before the other Ravenclaw finally floated her broom to a stopped position. He left his broom hovering midair as she slid from her own, meeting halfway. "You nearly had me, what happened?" One part of him was ready to celebrate, the other was vaguely aware something had gone terribly wrong. "Well done, I guess I owe you a drink huh!?" She giggled and he smiled in return, but his victory was short lived. She gave him an uncharacteristic one-armed hug, keeping her previously injured wrist very much out of contact. She pulled away and looked down out it with a frown and Luc realized just how stupid agreeing to a race had been in the first place. Penny wasn't even supposed to be on a broom yet, much less dodging about towers at top speed like they had been. "I don't understand, It was getting better.." "Damn it, Penny," he said almost affectionately. "Let me see it," the words soft and soothing as he gently took her arm to examine her wrist. "I'm sorry," he continously murmured each time he gently pressed a finger to see the extent of the damage done. It was swollen, possibly sprained or very close to it. At the very least she would have to wear a sling for a couple days to give it a rest. Luc shook his head, this was as much his own fault as it was hers for not seeing the risk in the first place. He'd been too concerned with clearing out the pictures in his head that he hadn't seen the danger for himself. "We might have to amputate." He tsked his best imitation of his mum's Healer voice, trying to get her to laugh as he still prodded, trying to determine if it was worth going to the nurse or casting a spell himself. "Penny, what are we going to do with you?" Luc frowned slightly. --- Words: 442 Tag: James Comments: Woot, let the games begin.

Post by James Potter on Oct 21, 2009 12:33:31 GMT -5
Why in the bloody hell was James Potter up so early on a Saturday morning? He sat up in his dormitory bed, and pushed aside the scarlet curtains surrounding his bed with a grumble. His hair shot up in every direction possible, a quality he unfortunately got from his father. At least James could some what tame the mess. He stood up, his plaid pajamas still wrinkled with sleep. Looking around the room, he saw it in a hazy blur. Then he remembered his glasses. He stumbled his way over to his nightstand to retrieve his glasses, then placed them on his face. Lucky James was surprised the first thing he saw was his ridiculous reflection in the mirror across the room. Scrunching up his nose, his hands ruffled his hair flat leaving it a much better sight to look at.
His mind wandered as he stood there listening to his housemates snore soundly. What the heck was he supposed to do this early on a Saturday morning? Certainly there was no falling back asleep for him. With a sigh, he began to dress figuring he should at least go get some breakfast before he made any other decisions. He slipped into his clothes and shrugged on his jacket. As he headed out of the dorm, he swiped up his Gryffindor scarf, not quite sure how chilly it was outside.
The Great Hall was deserted except for a few students here and there. Of course, because it was so early on a Saturday. James sighed as he headed for his house table. He was about to sit when he noticed the Ravenclaw table empty except for one student dressed partially in their Quidditch uniform. A light bulb went of in James' head, remembering that Penny had practice that day. He snatched up a muffin, and devoured it quickly before downing a goblet of pumpkin juice. Wiping his mouth on his sleeve, a typical Weasley trait, he started to head out of the hall.
His pace was a bit quicker than normal. Most likely because he was excited to see Penny. He thought he may be a little early, so he figured maybe it would be a nice surprise for her to see him in the stands and watching her practice. James slowed down once he reached the grass, because he nearly slid and fell on his face from the dew, causing him to let out a few choice words. A few near-by second years scurried off a bit nervously.
The Quidditch pitch came into view, larger and larger as he approached. He didn't see anyone whizzing around, so he assumed he was early or Penny was having a meeting with her team. James entered in through the spectators area, and headed towards the stairs to the stands. But then a breeze ruffled the drapes, carrying in muffled voices from outside. He paused and hurried over to an exit onto the field and peeked out. His brown furrowed instantly.
There was Penny, his lovely girlfriend standing in the middle of the field with another teammate. James wished he could feel excited to see her, but the fact that the guy with Penny was holding her hand really pissed him off. He noticed it was Luc Norwood with her. Just perfect. Her ex-boyfriend. James may not have been popular, but that didn't stop him from hearing gossip now and then. He knew the two used to date...
He let out a frustrated sigh, then pushed aside the curtain and headed onto the green. His hands were in his pockets as he tried to put on his best confident look. If anyone saw him, they'd either think he was a prick or looked like a fool. Those who knew James well enough would pick the ladder. The picture of the two figures got bigger as he approached. He heard Luc say something to Penny as he fiddled around his her hand. James' blood boiled. Penny was his girlfriend now. Who did Luc think he was?
"I thought Quidditch practice involved flying," James said smartly with a forced chuckle. Smooth James. Real smooth... he thought bitterly to himself. As he finally made it up to the pair, he noticed that Penny seemed hurt. He remembered that she had injured her wrist before, perhaps she had hurt it again. Maybe it was Luc who did it to her. If it was... James would deck him. Of course James didn't have the guts to do it, but the animal inside him was growling territorially. "Pen, are you okay?" he asked sounding concerned now. He moved closely to her side, his arm wrapping around her waist protectively. "What happened?"

* * * Well this just was not good. Not good at freaking all... Here she was, only minutes away from the start of Quidditch practise and she had busted her wrist... AGAIN. Seriously, sometimes she made herself so freaking angery. What was she thinking? Well she knew what she was thinking, Penny had gotten it into her mind that excersising the wrist a little would loosen it up a bit and speed up her recovery. However, the competitive streak in her took things a little further than excersising it a little... She allowed Lucas to take her hand and delicately examine it. She winced a little and her hand involuntarily jerked back a little when Luc gently pressed around the swollen wrist and her fingers, trying to assess the damage. She smiled reassuringly as he kept apologising for causing her added discomfort. Eventually Luc spoke up again, "We might have to amputate." She giggled slightly embarrassedly at the whole situation. Considering she was a Ravenclaw she wasn't very bright sometimes. "Uhoh, but what will I do without my hand!?" She asked with a mocking look of shock and an exaggerated gasp, though her joking attitude was soon replaced by another cringing frown when Luc pressed her wrist again. "Penny, what are we going to do with you?" She sighed. "It's fine Luc, I'll just ice it after practise it'll be fine for our first match.." She nodded seriously, though in her mind she was as much trying to convince herself as she was Lucas... "I thought Quidditch practice involved flying,"Wait, what? Penny's eyes snapped to the side where James Potter, her boyfriend was striding towards them. Oh crap. This clearly didn't look good... James had enough confidence issues as it was, without finding his girlfriend and her ex, (did he even know Luc was her ex?) alone in the early hours sort of but not holding hands... damn. But then again, she hadn't done anything wrong. There was completely innocent reasoning behind her whereabouts and the situation James had just stumbled across... "James..." She started, instinctively removing her arm from Luc's grasp as James joined them, wrapping his arm around her waist, her greeting was cut off however by his now concerned questioning, "Pen, are you okay? What happened?" She looked up at him and smiled some, "I'm okay, It's just my wrist, I was stupid, I thought It was back to full strength..." She tried to explain, though she found that she wasn't being as coherent as she normally would be... Suddenly she realised that she felt kind of panicky. She wasn't completely oblivious to the atmosphere between the trio, she could see James was pissed, even if it was clouded by concern... She hoped this wasn't going to end up in an argument. They hadn't had a proper argument yet, and she preferred to keep it that way for as long as possible...

--- "It's fine Luc, I'll just ice it after practise it'll be fine for our first match.." The seriousness in her voice told him that she was probably trying to convince herself as much as him. And Luc thought he wasn't the brightest Ravenclaw out there, here was Penny being defiant against her injury. He reached in his pocket to pull his wand out to perform a mild pain relieving charm when someone spoke, seemingly out of nowhere. "I thought Quidditch practice involved flying,"He looked over see James Potter, a seventh year Gryffindor and Penny's current boyfriend striding over. He looked every bit of someone trying to appear more confident then they actually were. Hands in his pockets and a forced chuckle added to the already awkward air he was emmitting. Luc couldn't actually claim to know Potter very well, they weren't in the same house, much less the same year. He didn't play quidditch or even have many of the same friends for that matter. "James..." Penny dropped her hand out of Luc's grasp as if they had been caught doing something very wrong. Which hadn't been the case, and Luc did not like the implication, whether or not he and Penny used to date. His hands fell to his side anyway and he nodded by way of greeting. James joined them wrapping an unnessary arm around Penny's waist, "Pen, are you okay? What happened?" In Luc's opinion, this should have been the first question when one found their girlfriend in a pained state, but what did he know? If James wanted to look like a fool while he marked his territory, Luc certainly wasn't going to try and stop him. Though he very nearly wanted to call him on it, make a smarmy comment about just pissing on Penny and getting it over with. It was one thing to have issues with possesiveness, Luc knew this problem well... but what did James expect? For he and Penny not to interact at all? It really couldn't be avoided at this point, even if they weren't still friends. "I'm okay, It's just my wrist, I was stupid, I thought It was back to full strength..." Penny's voice was odd sounding as she tried to explain the situation. It was not giving their innocence any credence, Luc realized, and the tension was mounting drastically. He shook his head, trying to stay focused on the current situation. "We raced and she aggravated the injury, and I was just taking a look at it" Luc said seriously, getting slightly annoyed by the whole thing. After all, he'd come out here to clear his head, not to add drama with his ex-girlfriend's current love interest. "She definitely needs to ice it, and might need to see the nurse, just to be sure she didn't do something else to it."--- Words: 501 Tags: Penny or James Comments: Luc is feeling defensive... he is also a hypocrite, as I stated yesterday.

It was hard for James to ignore Penny's guilty demeanor, which just added to his anxiety. So, she felt guilty. Had there been more that James missed? He didn't want to think about it. He trusted Penny; they loved each other. People who love each other are trustworthy. Right? James needed to stop questioning himself. It was hard when he was standing next to a popular Quidditch player who definitely surpassed James in the looks department. James was just a scrawny loser compared to Luc. Still aggrivated at the situation and now annoyed with himself, he listened as Penny and Luc explained what happened.
So they had a race, and that's how she was hurt. James frowned. That was something James couldn't enjoy with Penny. Its not that he hated Quidditch, he thought it was quite fun to watch. He just ended up disliking it over time because he couldn't play if his life depended on it. James was just a little bitter; another thing where he couldn't live up to his father. Another instance where he disappointed people. And now Luc was barking orders on how to take care of Penny. James eyed him, failing at hiding his annoyance.
"Of course she needs to ice it," James grumbled. "And I was just about to suggest she see the nurse..." He trailed off as his eyes wandered down to see Luc's wand in his hand. His eyebrows nearly disappeared into his hairline. "I hope you weren't planing on mending it." James said almost too belittling. But there was no way would he allow someone like Luc, an inexperienced 6h year, to even attempt to heal his girlfriends injuries.
One thing James got from his family was speaking his mind, along with the temper. Of course James was normally too shy most of the time to even speak up, but once something annoyed him, there was no stopping it really. It was worse now, because it was paired with jealousy. The last comment though was like a defense mechanism. One area that James was proud of was his spell work. Fixing Penny's wrist would be a cinch for him. He'd done it before. Though the coward in him made him stop, afraid that this time, of all times, he would screw up and make an arse of himself. Not that he hadn't already...
James lightly grasped Penny's wrist to take a peak at the damage, purposely moving his body to block out Luc. The wrist and hand were badly swollen and turning a nasty shade of purple. "Oh hell, we should really head up right now. This needs to be taken care of..."

* * * "We raced and she aggravated the injury, and I was just taking a look at it. She definitely needs to ice it, and might need to see the nurse, just to be sure she didn't do something else to it."Penny smiled thankfully at Luc as he explained the situation, although she didn't really appreciate the mothering over her the two boys were doing. Sure she'd bust her wrist, but in quidditch and as a fairly experienced quidditch player herself, injuries were expected from time to time. Once, when she was twelve, she was trying to be clever in the back yard, standing on her broom instead of sitting on it, like a muggle surfer would do. She leant forward too hard and began to dive, to counter the dive, she leant back, a little too hard, ended up falling off and breaking her leg when she fell onto the stone steps of her house. Luckily, her father wasn't at work and rushed out at the sound of her screams and mended the broken bone with a flick of his wand... But even he didn't scold her, or treat her like she was made of porcaline... He just accepted that was something that happened when one was learning a new skill and accedents could happen... Looking at James again she smiled, "I'm fine, hon-" But she was cut off. James' attention, it seemed, was planted firmly on Luc. "Of course she needs to ice it. And I was just about to suggest she see the nurse..." Penny frowned a little. She knew it needed to be bloody iced. She was the one to suggest it first! "I dont need the nur-" She started with a nervous laugh, but again she was cut off as James spoke up towards Luc once more, this time with a somewhat mocking tone, "I hope you weren't planing on mending it." Hang on just a second... The frowning expression deepened slightly, now James was just being rude, and Luc wasn't looking happy either. Oh jeez.. "Boys, I'm fine.. seriously. Forget it... I can mend it myself thanks..." She said, trying to calm the situation down a little bit... But neither of them it seemed, were listening. James was now examining her wrist, gently running his fingers over the now, pretty ugly looking bruising... The movement, blocking Luc's eyeline also had not gone unnoticed. "Oh hell, we should really head up right now. This needs to be taken care of..."Penny rolled her eyes delicately, hoping that James didn't actually see her do it. "James, I got it.. I'm fine." She insisted, quite calmly. She hoped if she could remain calm then perhaps this frosty atmosphere between the trio would diffuse a little rather than escalate into something that Penny really couldn't bare to be dealing with right now... She desperately faught the urge to wince everytime James touched her wrist, gritting her teeth through the pain. She figured that the more injured she outwardly appeared, the more of an issue James and Luc were going to make of this... and the more likely that the atmosphere was going to develope into something more than just an atmosphere... Gah! Boys...
