It was tiring, being the Head Auror. And sometimes he wondered why he every agreed to the position. But all he had to do was think about how many people he put in Azkaban to remember that he did it to help keep the Magical (and the Muggle) world safe. But there was no denying that the position was highly dangerous. And Harry’s life was already dangerous to begin with. He really didn’t need anything else to add to it.
But at the same time, if he wasn’t the Head Auror, how many of those people would have walked free from their crimes? No, Harry knew from past experiences that when a criminal walked free and ‘saw the error of his ways’ that it was only a mask that was placed up for the world to see. For most, there was no reforming. And Harry wasn’t going to take any chances. Of course, he wasn’t unfair. Everything Harry did was fair. He knew what to look for when planning a trail for a former Death Eater or those who was suspected of being so.
Like the Malfoy family. Of course, the Malfoy’s had freed themselves. They had abandoned the battle and Voldemort himself in their desperations to find themselves back together again. It was proof that even the cruelest persons could have a heart. Because of that, he was on ‘friendly terms’ with Draco.
He sighed, leaning back in his chair as he laid his glasses on the desk in front of him, rubbing his eyes. He had pulled another all nighter, determined to at least put a dent in the amount of work he had. He looked at the documents in front of him, everything blurry due to the fact that his glasses were off. Putting his glasses back on, he picked up the paper in front of him and scanned it. They had put away so many Death Eaters, yet so many of them were walking from. And if it was the last thing he did, he was going to make sure they were put away.
Unconsciously, he reached up, fingering the lightning bolt shaped scar on his forehead. It hadn’t pained him in Twenty-four years. And yet, Harry felt that something was wrong. He couldn’t tell what it was though, but he had a gut feeling; and Harry knew his gut wouldn’t steer him wrong. He sighed, yawning a bit as he rubbed the stumble on his chin. His gaze flickered to the clock on the wall. The rest of the Ministry would be coming in shortly. This brought Harry to other things. He had to schedule a visit to Azkaban and Hogwarts. Merlin he was busy.

- - - - - - - - - - Ted yawned. It had been a fairly long night. In order to get the passed three days off he had agreed to do a night shift for a few people. He wanted those few nights off to spend some quality time with his new fiancee, Victoire Weasley, and Harry only agreed if he could find someone to take his shift. He had asked around and no one really wanted it for nothing, but a few guys said they'd take his shifts if he took two night ones. He agreed at once and had spent a few blissful days with the love of his life. Seriously, if he knew how good life was when she was actually his, the ring placed on her finger to show any other guy who tried to hit on her, oh man he'd do it sooner.
The shifts were pretty dull. He had been under cover in the lower regions of England, hanging with a few thugs trying to get some information on any Death Eaters. The good thing about being a Metamorphagus was that he could change his appearence at will, making him seem completely incognito. He had a few leads, hearing that there may be a new Dark Lord in the works, but no true leads on that story. A few Death Eaters were in hiding in Ireland and France, again nothing new, but either way, he had to write it down, and pass the info onto his godfather to correct. Did Ted find it amusing that his Godfather was in charge of a large organization just like a Mafia? Yes, yes he did. But he wouldn't say anything. With age, Harry had become more mature, and hated watching his kids grown up right in front of him. Poor guy barely got a break from his job now a days.
Ted yawned and finished the last of his report an spun his chair around to his messenger bag. He had taken Harry's famous invisbility cloak to hide from Vic while she opened her empty present, only making himself aware when she was looking for the ring for around five minutes. It worked like a charm, and all he had to do was return the cloak to him like he promised. He pulled the cloak over his arm and grabbed the file on his lastest case and headed to Harry's office. With a few rasps on the door, he headed inside, only to meet a vey exhausted looking Harry. Just looking at him made Ted want to yawn.
"'Morning Harry." Ted greeted with a yawn. He stepped into his godfather's office and took a seat infront of his desk, loosening his tie, something he only did in front of Harry and leaned back in his seat. "I brought over that case file you wanted me to do up of my investigation last night and your cloak, forgot to give it back to you after you let me borrow it." Ted chuckled, motioning to each when Harry looked at him. "You're hear pretty earlier for a boss, aren't you suppose to come in like at nine? I believe it only around... I have no, I haven't looked at a clock in hours." Ted said with another yawn. - - - - - - - - - - WORDS?: 550 TAGS?: Harry LYRICS?: --- COMMENTS?: not fail by you!

Harry looked up as someone knocked on his door. “Come in.” he said, his voice giving away how tired he was. He looked back down at the list of Aurors that were all working during the next few weeks. He personally wanted to make the visit to Hogwarts for more than one reason. And Harry was a firm believer in having back up where ever you went. As the fights throughout his youth proved; there was safety in numbers. So he had to find someone else to go with him. He also needed to choose two to go to Azkaban. But he had to check past surveillances to make sure he wasn’t sending someone there more than once. If he could avoid it, he liked to send different peoples on the checks.
He looked up when he heard Ted’s voice. He smiled lightly at his Godson. “Hey Ted.” He said. He sighed, relaxing back in his seat and rubbing the back of his neck slightly. Normally, he would tell off anyone for being as relaxed as Ted was right now, but he couldn’t help but just accept it around Ted or Victoire for that matter. But he was careful to make sure he was fair with everyone. When the times were serious, no one got special treatment.
He took both items presented to him, his Invisibility Cloak and the Case File. He put the cloak in a drawer and magically locked it with a tap of his wand. If there was one thing he was extremely careful with, it was his father’s Cloak. It was the only thing he had of his father’s, and Harry cherished it above all else. “I was wondering when you were going to give that back.” He said to him with a chuckle. He laughed at Ted’s statement about the being here so early.
“Actually, I haven’t left. Ginny’s going to kill me when I do go home. But there’s still so much work to be done and it’s just piling up.” He said, motioning to the files he had worked on all night. There were multiple folders on his desk, ranging anywhere from an inch to three inches thick. “There are still a lot of Death Eaters who managed to get away. More so than I’m comfortable with. Ginny doesn’t know this. She thinks they’re all away, and I’d rather like to keep her thinking that.”

- - - - - - - - - - Ted smiled at his godfather as he watched him immediately relax, realizing it was only Ted. Harry would only do this in the presence of him, Victoire or Ron, otherwise he be sitting up straight in his chair, trying his best not to look exhausted. He could see the bags under Harry's eyes, so he didn't doubt Harry's admission to being up all night. But he graciously took the moment to appreciate the fact Harry wasn't yelling at him to sit up straight or loosen his tie. Harry was a strong believer in making everything fair, but most people understood the close bond between his godson, niece and best friend, so when they did get the glimpse of them slacking off, never mention anything. And frankly, Ted was a work-a-holic like Harry. He loved his job, as dangerous as it could be. He was just glad Victoire had chosen the same job, he could imagine how much worry it would be if she were sitting at home while he running off after Death Eaters. Most of the time she was right beside him.
Ted raised a hand to the back of his neck. "Yeah, sorry about that. We've been busy telling people about the engagement and calming Fleur down to give her a date and make sure she won't finalize anything that Vic hasn't approved of." Ted chuckled, smiling as he thought about the wedding again. It had be a constant playing in his head the day after he proposed. Him in fancy dress robes, she in a beautiful white dress. Ginny and Fleur bawling on their husbands, Harry and Bill trying to calm their wives down. He wondered where everyone sit, on his side or on Victoire's. It would be confusing day for everyone, he was sure eventually people would just sit where there was open seats. The only thing that truly matter about that day anyways was that Victoire would become his wife, and that they would be bounded together for the rest of their lives, something they both were looking forward to. He began to wonder if it was just his future mother-in-law who got like this, or if it was everyone's. "Hey Harry, was Molly as bad as Fleur when you and Ginny announced your marriage?" Ted asked, sighing gently.
He sighed again, running hand through his hair as he observed the hundreds of case files on Harry's desk. "Harry, none of us like it anymore then you do, and it's a little different for me, since Vic works here and hears about all about this, but maybe you should tell her? I know she would like to hear about something like this. She'll only get more angry if this gets out." he said, knowing how pissed Vic got when he kept stuff from her, like why he left her for six years without telling her the true reason behind his leave. Harry had been the only one to truly know why Ted had left so suddenly after training and why he had broken up with Victoire. He looked up at his Godfather. Harry had done so much for him over the years, he never got to truly thank Harry. "I have to thank you Harry.. for protecting Vic. I'm not sure what I'd do if I came back and she was gone." he was referring to the fact that Harry had kept Victoire from danger while he was gone, not allowing her to go on the field unless it wasn't very dangerous and sticking her to paper work. Sure she hated it, but knowing she was safe all those years put Ted at ease. Especially now, since every night he went to sleep holding her close, knowing she was safe and loved by him.
Ted pondered for a moment. "Harry.. with all these Death Eaters.. you don't think.." he didn't want to say it out loud. The last thing he wanted was another war. He knew Harry wouldn't want it either, nor would any of the Order of the Phoenix members. Sure, they haven't grouped in years, since the last war, but they were known. But if the Order regrouped, then everyone would know another war was rising. The only question was, who was in charge this time? - - - - - - - - - - WORDS?: 736 TAGS?: Harry LYRICS?: --- COMMENTS?: Sorry it took me so long to reply, and the fact this post is all over the place >.>

Harry chuckled slightly at his Godson. He smiled, shaking his head a bit. “No need to apologize. I understand.” He said. Harry knew perfectly well everything that happened after an engagement. He could remember proposing to Ginny all those years ago. When Ted asked him if he could remember Molly’s reaction, he coughed slightly, turning pink in the face.
“Well. It wasn’t so much as Molly’s reaction I was afraid of. It was her brother’s. Molly had already been something of a mother figure to me, and I doubt she was very much surprised. But she did do a bunch of crying and squeezed me until I thought my ribs had broken. But really it was Ron, Bill, Charlie, and Percy I was worried about. I knew George had my back.” He said. Ah, he could remember their reactions so well. Ron had made a slight strangled noise and his face contorted into what Harry assumed was a cross between joy and anger. Bill … Well, Bill didn’t seem all that surprised either. But Charlie and Percy had threatened Harry immensely.
He sighed, shaking his head and running his hand through his hair slightly; causing it to stand up on end even further. “Ted, I can’t tell Ginny. She worries enough about my job. If I told her about all the death threats I get in my In box and how many Death Eaters are out there… well, You’d be lucky if you ever caught a glimpse of me again. You’ve got to understand Ginny’s point of view.” He said, muttering a bit as he focused his gaze to his ‘window’. “I broke things off with her back in school because I was afraid Voldemort would use her to get to me. He’d already used her because she was my best friend’s baby sister. Imagine what he could do when he found out we were seeing each other? She had to spend the next several months worrying about if Ron, Hermione, or my-self would come back alive.” He said. He shook his head, looking at Ted. “No, it’s best she doesn’t find out.” He said.
He then smiled lightly at Ted when he was thanked. He shook his head softly again. “No need to thank me. I was doing it for myself as much as for you.” He said. If he could help it, he wouldn’t let anything happen to Victoire. Harry loved his family dearly, and he couldn’t stand it if any more of them were killed. Instantly, an image of Sirius, Remus, Fred, and Tonks swam into his mind’s eye, followed by that of his parents. He sighed, looking at the picture he had on his desk of his parents wedding.
And then Ted voiced what Harry had been suspecting all along. His green eyes darkened slightly as he continued to look at his parents as they beamed happily up at him, waving; Of Sirius, so young and carefree looking, laughing at his joyous friends. “To be honest Ted… I’m not sure.” He said quietly. He finally tore his gaze away from his loved ones to look at his Godson. “Everything points to a new Dark Lord. I constantly have that sick feeling in my stomach… and it feels like it did before during the Second War. But I’m no closer to figuring out who it is than I am from raising the dead. All I can tell you is to be careful, keep your head down, and don’t do anything stupid until anything’s confirmed.” He said.
Harry refused to let anything happen to Ted. Remus had entrusted him with the life of his son. And Harry loved Ted as if he were his own. He and Ginny both treated him like a son, regardless of the fact that they were only seventeen years older than he.

- - - - - - - - - - Ted chuckled as his godfather turned a bright pink in the face, coughing to try and cover it up. His face flushed slightly, the Weasley men never had a problem with him before, would they threaten him about hurting her again. They had threaten him since his return, saying if he was going to hurt her again there would be serious punishment. Vic was all of their first nieces, and when she was young she had them wrapped around her finger, much like she had Teddy today. Harry had taken it well, as had Bill, but they were the parents of the two of them. How was he supposed to survive the Uncles as well?
Ted shook those thoughts away as Harry began to mention the reasons why he couldn't tell Ginny. It was true, the women over reacted quite immensely about her husband's life, especially since in the dark wizards world they had a bounty on his head. He then realized what Harry meant. Since his return, he and Vic had insisted going on missions together, afraid to see the other one go down. Harry was a bit skeptical at first, thinking that the mission may be left behind because of the two of them getting a little busy somewhere, but that was never the case. The two of them were very professional about their jobs, the sole reason they wanted to go on missions together was to make sure nothing happened to the other one. This also may seem against Harry's morals, but the fact of the matter was that the two of them had been trained in what to do when one of their team got hit. They only trusted one another, they didn't trust the newbies to go and save them if they were in mortal peril.
Ted nodded his head. "I'm not going to let anything happen to me Harry, same goes for Victoire. We couldn't do that to anyone." he said, watching as Harry looked at the picture's upon his desk. He had similar ones on his, one of his parents, one of Vic and him, and one of the Potter family. He had a ritual, whenever he'd go on a mission, he would tell each of the picture frames that he would be back soon, and to his parents he said he would see him when he was a bit grayer. But thing was about that, Ted wasn't sure if he would get grey, Could he keep himself look young? He could make himself go old now, but when he was that age, could he keep himself looking like he was when he was seventeen? He shook his head again, pulling his thoughts away from the fear of grey hairs. "Besides, me and Vic have too many plans for the future to throw away just yet." he chuckled, knowing Harry didn't like it when he talked about his future, getting married, having kids, making Harry a grandfather. It was already discussed with Ginny, they'd explain to their kids when they were a bit older, but he knew they'd always be Grandpa and Grandma, or whatever they wanted to be called. Harry refused to go on that topic at all. - - - - - - - - - - WORDS?: 548 TAGS?: Harry LYRICS?: --- COMMENTS?: Icky post :/

Harry shook his head, a small smile forming on his face. He could see so much of himself in Ted. And Harry felt a leap of pride at that. Even then Harry wasn’t his biological father; he was the only father he had, just as Sirius was to him. And for the longest time, Harry feared he would follow in Sirius’s footsteps and fail Teddy as he’d been failed.
But seeing the young man in front of him, Harry knew he had succeeded. And with his success, Sirius Black had succeeded in him. It was as if a puzzle was finally being able to piece itself together. And Harry saw so many of his own traits in Ted. Leaving the one they love for their protection, even if they didn’t fully understand what was going on. Making sure that loved one was well protected and watched over, even if you weren’t able to do so… Small, subtle hints of the two of them. And Ted even had the same life style so to speak; both of his parents gone before he could even remember them. But this was where the similarities ended. Ted grew up loved, wanted. He grew up with stories of his parents and how brave they were.
Harry had made sure of that. He had never hid anything from his Godson. Any question that was asked, Harry answered to the best of his abilities. He knew what it was like to have so many questions and not enough answers. No, there had never been any answer for him. Everything he sought, he had to find on his own; pushed in the right direction by those around him.
And he knew it was for that reason that Victoire and Ted insisted on going to missions together. They wanted to help each other, make sure both were safe. And Harry allowed it. He didn’t want Ted to lose anymore that he already has, and he never wanted Victoire to lose anything at all. Selfish reasons, yet not so at the same time. But still, it was a system that Harry would be forced to break. While it was excellent that they could work together and put the mission before their personal lives, they also had to be able to work with everyone else; including newbie’s or others that they normally wouldn’t have agreed to work with. It was part of life.
A small sigh escaped him. Yes, he knew that. But still… “Ted, just because you won’t let anything happen, doesn’t mean that it won’t. There’s a lot of things that I wouldn’t have let happen either. And now, I have to look back at the loss; realize and acknowledge it, then accept it. Things will happen that you don’t want to, and that’s life. We can’t try and force life into a form that we see desirable. Every small action, gesture, word, choice, everything… It all shapes the future we have live with.” He said. If there was one thing, Harry knew better than anything, it was living with the consequences of actions. Not only his, but others as well.
Ah, the subtle hint of the future. A small smile came to his features. Ted’s future. That would mean Grandkids for him. Harry pondered the idea of being a grandfather for a few seconds. He shook his head, chuckling slightly as he leaned back into his chair, his tired muscles relaxing against the soft leather. “Don’t we all Ted, don’t we all.” He said. He absentmindedly twirled the wedding band on his finger as he regarded his Godson. “The tricky part is actually making it there, all body parts intact. It’s a wonder how I even made it.” He said with a chuckle.

- - - - - - - - - - Ted shook his head at his godfather as he spoke, but heard him out. "Harry, I can't let my kids, when we get there, lose their parents. Both you and I know what it's like to live without them. Sure, you and Gin were like my own parents, but there was somethings you couldn't always give me. You tried you best when James was born, but I understood, James was yours and I was the kid who lost his parents during the war. I can't say I'm complaining though, since that's when Bill offered to take me more so there wasn't so much stress on you and Gin." he smirked, remember him and Vic running around Shell Cottage with her little brother and sister. When ever they would play hide-in-go seek he'd hide in the tree and blend in, Vic would always get so pissed off at him, saying that it was cheating to use his metamorphagus powers, but then he would help her up in the tree with him and hide her from her little brother, who'd always get a temper on him when he began to lose. He shook his head, coming back to the present.
"Whenever I'm out there, I think about what I need to come back to. You, Gin, James, Lily and Albus, not to mention the Weasley's and most importantly Vic. Although she's right by my side now most of the time, I'm not going to get myself killed. That's one thing I'm sure of." he said, although he knew Harry would have a back answer for that. After a few minutes of silence, Harry spoke up, joking about keeping all his body parts. "Well I've managed not to get hurt, besides the black eye on my first mission back, but that was understanding, since I called the thug's leader's girlfriend not pretty. Not one of my most shinning hours." he chuckled, lifting a hand to rub his eye. The black eye was slightly annoying, and hurt from time to time when it was there, but after it turned a yellow color everything was fine once again.
He shifted in his seat to watch Harry's parents, godfather and family move about, smiling and wave at him, feeling the emptiness he usually did when he saw family's together. "I've been missing them a lot lately." Ted whispered, bitting the inside of one of his cheeks, as he always did when he talked of his parents. "Wondering if Mum would be proud I had come an Auror or worried. Wondering if Dad would be happy that I'm engaged to Victoire, since her dad has wolfish tendencies. I bet Mum would find if funny since Molly tried to set her and Bill up before Fleur." he chuckled, squeezing his hands together. - - - - - - - - - - WORDS?: 490 TAGS?: Harry LYRICS?: --- COMMENTS?: sorry sorry sorry from the crappiness and the lateness of this post.

Yes, if there was one thing they both understood, it was how to live without their parents. It was probably what sealed the relationship between Harry and Ted. They could relate to one another. And Harry had done everything in his power to make sure Ted knew he was loved. And then he had had his own child, James. The first pride and joy of his life. Don’t get Harry wrong, he loved all of his children equally, but there was always something about your first born. And it had been tough for a while when James was born. While Harry had been used to a toddler, he wasn’t sure how to react to a new born. Bill had taken Ted then, caring for the boy until Harry could get a grasp onto things.
“Ted, you’re not just ‘the kid who lost his parents during the war’. And if I ever hear you say that again, I will beat your ass. You’re not old enough for me to reconsider spanking you.” He said. And Harry meant it. To Harry, Ted was a life saver. There had been many times after the war and during the recovery that Harry had questioned many things, finding it hard to find the strength and will to live. It had been holding Teddy, caring for him, playing with him, and watching him grow that had given Harry the strength he needed.
He shook his head slightly. There was no point in arguing with the boy, but Harry knew that it wasn’t for nothing. Ted would take Harry’s words with him. “Keep that Will strong, Ted. That’s all the difference in the world.” He said. That’s all it always came down to, the will to survive. To keep fighting and go on. He chuckled about Ted’s comment on the black eye. “Hey, I told you not to let your guard down, didn’t I?” he asked. Harry knew for a fact that Women could always be more dangerous than men. They were much more unpredictable than men.
Harry watched silently as Ted moved to better look at his pictures. He too, returned his attention to them. A softer look entered Harry’s eyes at his Godson’s words. He knew how he felt. There wasn’t a time that went by that Harry didn’t miss any of them. But when the feeling got particularly strong was when the guilt began to eat at him; tearing him to pieces. “I know… I miss them too.” He said. He looked at Ted. Even though he was a grown man now, setting out to create his own family, Harry still saw the little boy that Remus and Tonks had entrusted to him. “Your parents are proud of you Teddy. You’re helping to protect the world that they died to protect. A world they gave their life for so that you can live happily and chase your dreams in. And they’re constantly with you. You seem them inside yourself when you have the most need of them. The ones we love never really leave us.”
Harry felt a sense of Déjà vu sweeping over him. Those were the same words both Sirius Black and Albus Dumbledore had told him in his third year. They were words that Harry, to this day, still found comfort in. A small sigh escaped him as he rubbed his eyes. “Ted, while you’re here, I want to discuss something with you. And you’re not to disclose it to anyone. Not even Vic.” He said, staring at Ted with a serious look. “I’ll be going on a mission in a few days. And I’ll be doing it alone. I can’t say how long this will take, but I will be able to write daily reports. Basically I’ll be pulling all nighters for a week or so. This has to do with what we discussed earlier, about there possibly being another Dark Lord. I’m going to confirm this thing if it’s the last thing I do, and it very well could be. Now listen, this is the most dangerous Occupation our world has to offer. If I’m right and there is a new Dark Lord, then that means I could very well die. If something happens to me, you are to inform everyone what has happened.” He said.
Harry didn’t like to think that something negative could happen to him. But at the same time, he knew that it was extremely possible. Especially with him. He had a higher risk of dying than any of the Aurors, but at the same time, he had a higher chance of survival. He could be held hostage for the whole magical world. “I want you to keep an eye on Ginny and the kids for me. Both while I’m gone and if something were to happen to me.” His biggest fear was that Ginny might do something stupid. Ginny had almost lost Harry on how many occasions? If something were to happen to him, how would she react? And his kids… he didn’t have as close a relationship with them as he wished he had. But still, his top priority was them. It always was.
